Dear NFBA Members,
The workshops being offered at our monthly pickings are meeting with
success. No matter what your playing level, if you haven't attended one
of our workshops, you're missing out. At our recent picking at Twin
Oaks in Hoboken we offered three workshops. I hosted the banjo workshop;
and Mike Evors hosted not one but TWO workshops, one featuring dobro
and the other claw hammer banjo. Thank you, Mike, for the extra mile for
your fellow members. All of the feedback on the workshops has been positive
and we hope to continue the workshops and add more instruments to the line up
as we go along. If you are interested in hosting a workshop at one of our
pickings or have questions about a specific workshop, feel free to contact
me at stelling78@yahoo.com,
912-267-9464, or contact Don Pierce at gdpierce@aol.com,
904-225-2013.
After the workshops are over, another opportunity is the Slow-Jam hosted
by Tom and Lorraine Keener. They host this at their camper from 1-2pm at
each monthly picking. The Slo-Jam is designed to help you put into practice
what you're learning elsewhere without the pressure of a fast-paced jam
session. The sessions focus on songs that are slow to moderate speed and you
are encouraged to ask questions, take a break if you're comfortable with it,
or just practice the chord changes. The Keeners are pros at supporting the jammers
but more advanced players are also encouraged to attend to provide additional
support for all instruments.
The workshops and Slo-Jam are offered free of charge to all NFBA members.
These are conducted by members for members. This is proof that our members are
dedicated to the furtherance of Bluegrass music. Thanks to you, we can be proud of
what our organization is accomplishing.
Sincerely,
Rick Ray
